A LITTLE RIDE AROUND THE THUMB............

Our first aim today was to head south to Algonac at the mouth of the St. Clair River and at the southeastern corner of Michigan. Our overall goal is to tour the outside of the state which is bordered by water. If you look at Michigan, the right or east side of the state is called the "thumb" and the rest of the state is the hand. Today we rode the entire outside of the thumb and landed in Bay City. We travelled 240 miles and had a view first of the St Clair River then Lake Huron and Saginaw Bay. The east side of the thumb was mostly little towns with lots of marinas, boats and beaches. Once we turned south at the top of the thumb it became very agricultural with lots of corn and what we assumed was beets for sugar production. We even saw a quite acrobatic show from a crop dusting plane.

This ride today was really nice again a reminder to me of what a beautiful country we live in. I am so blessed to continue to have these experiences.
We saw a lot of very pretty sights at marinas

At Fort Gratiot in Port Huron we saw this neat lighthouse. It is where Lake Huron meets The St. Clair River
There was a lot of small town America on display as we made our way around the thumb.
Very patriotic! Red, white and blue.

Tomorrow's plan is to make our way around the rest of the "hand" (we are skipping the Upper Peninsula) and to Cherif's home on Lake Charlevoix.
